What is it about the new year that has people eating healthier, looking better, and trying harder? There’s just something about January that resets the clock and makes us believe that we can achieve anything. This popular mindset on starting over at the new year helps us plan and make goals to work on and gives us a time frame in which we want to see results.
The most popular resolutions are related to weight, health, or fitness goals. Which all go along with how we look and feel about ourselves. But those of use who struggle from acne might have a different plan. Can you imagine achieving smooth, even-textured, glowing skin (sans pimples)? How would that change your confidence? Your relationships? Your year?
From personal experience, when I look good on the outside, I feel good about myself on the inside. This allows me to take chances I normally wouldn’t feel comfortable taking. It helps me achieve goals I once didn’t think were possible. It helps me to know my self-worth, and to not settle.
Below are some tips on how to take control of your acne, and to make this your best year yet. Don’t let another year go by with blemished skin and low self-esteem. 2017 is your year to make a change!
1. Drink more water.
Most of us don’t drink nearly as much water as we should, and since our skin is comprised of 64% water, we really need to make sure our bodies are getting a sufficient amount. Women need a little over 2.5 liters of water per day. If it’s hard for you to remember or incorporate into your daily routine, try setting reminders on your phone or get a water bottle with a built-in timer that lets you know when it’s time to take a sip. Drinking enough water will help your skin to look plump, awake, and hydrated. It also helps flush out toxins, which means less toxins in your body that could potentially cause a breakout.
2. Give your body the proper nutrients.
Not all of us are die-hard veggie fans, and some of us are probably not getting nearly as many vitamins and nutrients our bodies need to function at an optimum rate. We don’t often think of acne as an internal issue, but in fact, a good number of people suffer from acne that is caused by gut issues. If you suffer from breakouts and think it might be gut related, we recommend taking a good skin vitamin with natural ingredients, paired with a probiotic for maximum effect to ensure that your body has the tools it needs to fight acne internally.
3. Make your skin a priority, not an after-thought.
Many of us have tried numerous treatment options for acne, and haven’t experienced quite the results we had hoped for. Don’t let your fear and hopelessness keep you from experiencing clearer skin. What works for one person, might not work for the next, we all respond to treatment in our own unique way. Everyone’s skin care journey will look a little different, and that’s okay! When you make your skin a priority, you will reap the benefits of healthier skin.
